Love these observations, Beth. I've been eyeing this show and now I definitely have to watch it (after I finish White Lotus, of course). Good luck with revisions!
Yes to The Four Seasons and your astute observations — loved having them broken down so I was forced to think about them in an organized way. So thank you for that!! And yes to all Fredrik Backman — I’ve been a huge fan since Ove’s release and can’t see that changing! Saving this book for my vacation read!
You are SO right about the writing genius of TFS. There are so many amazing things to take from it. Also lol at the explosive third option.
I also agree, Fredrick Backman is the best kind of people… because he gets people. I can’t wait to read this one though I think it may be his last ever so part of me wants to wait to savor it?
I heard the rumor about this tragic possibility!! And glad my vague musings could make you laugh. It was very hard to share these thoughts in a (mostly) spoiler-free way! Hopefully it feels like safe territory for people who haven't seen the show yet :)
I love reading your perspective as a writer and so appreciated your capturing the mechanics of the story and how that functional scaffolding behind the scenes that creates a captivating story. So many people just consume stories and don't know the why behind their deep appreciation for one and not another. I think that's the true magic of a storyteller: that the story is told and the viewer/reader is so engulfed that they forget where they are and that it's fiction. Those emotions we feel and characters we fall in love with are real, where fiction transcends into real life experience and I felt that every episode of TFS. Again, well written and loved this so much!
Ok, I love all of this! You know this show is at the very top of my never ending list of “things I want to watch”, but I might *actually* cross this one off because I’m even more excited to watch it now. I loved your analysis of the storytelling and character work. As someone currently writing a varied ensemble cast, I’m taking notes. 📝

This week has been bananas so I have still barely gotten into that book but can't wait to have more time...soon! Thanks for reading, Mere!
